The mill of Bourtange - a photo on Flickriver

De Vestingmolen is een standerdmolen op een van de wallen van de voormalige legervesting Bourtange in de provincie Groningen.

Oorspronkelijk stond op deze locatie al in 1619 een walmolen. Deze standerdmolen staat sinds 1832 in Ter Haar. Bij de reconstructie van de vesting is deze molen in 1980 als kopie van de oorspronkelijke molen in Ter Haar gebouwd. Deze standerdmolen heeft bijvoorbeeld een houten bovenas en borstroeden. Naast de standerdmolen op het molenbastion is een kleine rosmolen gesitueerd, deze werd gebruikt in tijden van nood om toch graan te kunnen malen. Ook deze rosmolen is bij de reconstructie van de vesting in ere hersteld. De standerdmolen wordt regelmatig door een vrijwillig molenaar in bedrijf gesteld en is eigendom van de gemeente Westerwolde.

De molen is een gemeentelijk monument.

De Vestingmolen is a post mill on one of the ramparts of the former army fortress of Bourtange in the province of Groningen.

Originally, a windmill was located at this location in 1619. This post mill has been in Ter Haar since 1832. During the reconstruction of the fortress, this mill was built in 1980 as a copy of the original mill in Ter Haar. For example, this post mill has a wooden top shaft and breast rods. Next to the post mill on the windmill bastion is a small horse mill, it was used in times of need to still be able to grind grain. This horse mill was also restored during the reconstruction of the fortress. The post mill is regularly put into operation by a voluntary miller and is owned by the municipality of Westerwolde.

The mill is a municipal monument.
