De Kettingbrug (Hongaars: Széchenyi lánchíd) is de oudste brug over de Donau in de Hongaarse hoofdstad Boedapest. Ze is de vijfde brug, als men stroomafwaarts gaat.
De brug werd tussen 1839 en 1849 gebouwd

Nog voor de feestelijke inwijding in 1849 dreigde de nieuwe brug alweer vernield te worden. Tijdens de opstand van de Hongaren tegen het Oostenrijks bewind hadden de Oostenrijkse troepen zich in Boeda verschanst. Pest was geheel in handen van de Hongaarse opstandelingen. De Oostenrijkers hadden grote hoeveelheden kruit opgeslagen bij het bruggenhoofd op de rechter Donau-oever. Als het Oostenrijkse garnizoen in Boeda in gevaar zou geraken, diende de brug opgeblazen te worden. De Hongaarse bevelhebber dreigde zijn Oostenrijkse collega alle Oostenrijkse militairen in Boeda te zullen doden als ze de Kettingbrug, "dat prachtige kunstwerk", zouden opblazen. Hoewel er bij wederzijdse gevechtshandelingen ontploffingen waren, bleek de brug nog grotendeels intact toen de kruitdampen waren opgetrokken.

In januari 1945 bliezen Hitlers troepen de brug op om de opmars van de Russische troepen te vertragen. In 1949 was ze weer in haar oorspronkelijke vorm opgebouwd. De ingebruikname vond precies honderd jaar na de inwijding plaats, op 21 november.

The Chain Bridge (Hungarian: Széchenyi lánchíd) is the oldest bridge over the Danube in the Hungarian capital Budapest. It is the fifth bridge, if one goes downstream.
The Bridge was built between 1839 and 1849

Even before the festive inauguration in 1849, the new bridge was in danger of being destroyed again. During the uprising of the Hungarians against the Austrian regime, the Austrian troops had entrenched themselves in Buda. Pest was entirely in the hands of the Hungarian rebels. The Austrians had stored large quantities of gunpowder at the bridgehead on the right bank of the Danube. If the Austrian garrison in Buda were to be endangered, the bridge had to be blown up. The Hungarian commander threatened to kill his Austrian colleague all Austrian soldiers in Buda if they would blow up the Chain Bridge, "that beautiful work of art". Although there were explosions during mutual combat operations, the bridge was still largely intact when the powder fumes were erected.

In January 1945, Hitler's troops blew up the bridge to slow the advance of the Russian troops. In 1949 it was rebuilt in its original form. The commissioning took place exactly one hundred years after the initiation, on November 21.
