As a volunteer for the National Park Service at Channel Islands National Park, I have the privilege of visiting these beautiful islands off of the Southern California coastline frequently. The images that I've posted yesterday and today were taken during a volunteer training trip to the Scorpion Anchorage Area of Santa Cruz Island. My supervising ranger who is on temporary island duty invited me to spend the day with him observing his duties and interactions with other visitors. During the morning we hiked up from near the landing area to Cavern Point which provides a panoramic view of the Eastern side of the island and of Anacapa Island to the east. This photo was taken from the trail on the way to Cavern Point from a precipice where Anacapa Island to the east on the horizon can also be seen. Yes these are the true colors of the sky and the sea, other than a minor correction (a two degree straightening of the horizon line) this shot is SOOC.
