Penzance Heliport (PZE) postcard - 1960's (postmarked on June 28, 1965)

            This heliport officially closed on October 31, 2012 and a Sainsbury's supermarket now occupies the site. 

Description from reverse:
The Penzance Heliport, Eastern Green, was opened on September 1st, 1964.  It was the first to be built in Europe incorporating terminal and maintenance facilities. Designed and financed by B.E.A. as the mainland terminal of scheduled helicopter service to and from the Isles of Scilly. Occupying a ten acre site, the new heliport is only 1,500 yards from the town centre alongside the A30 road from Exeter and London.  There are full facilities of a small domestic airfield, including passenger check-n and sales desk, a waiting lounge and refreshment bar.
