Symphony of Light - a photo on Flickriver

Symphony of Light

            Crepuscular rays break over the Manti La Sal Mountains just after sunrise.  While the rays appear to radiate from a central source, they are actually parallel to each other, streaming through gaps in the clouds or breaks in mountain ridges.  Windy conditions raised copious amounts of fine dust, contributing to the hazy conditions.  Below the horizon ridges of the La Sals is the top of the cliffs above the Colorado River.  The rock monuments in the foreground are Chimney Rock (on the left) and The Plug (on the right).  Photographed just east of the The Wall in the Maze District of Canyonlands National Park.
