Underground riverbed of Demänovská Caves

The national nature monument of the Demänovská Caves on the northern side of the Low Tatras Mts. is the longest cave system in Slovakia. Discovered in 1921 and opened to the public in 1924. The public entrance is at an altitude of 870 metres. Of the total length of 8.4 km, 1.8km are open to the public. Cave bear bones were found in a passage now named Bear's Passage.The Demänovská Cave of Liberty belongs among its dominating caves. It has been captivating the visitors by its rich flowstone fill of various colours, magical flow of underground Demänovka as well as the charming pools for many years. It is the most visited show cave in Slovakia. It contains: the Great Dome – the largest underground space in Slovak show caves with underground riverbed and moonmilk wall. The second part – Pink Hall and Král’s Gallery is morphologically the most varied part of this cave with unique cave water lilies and sponge shapes in lakes, cave pearls and many shapes of flowstone decoration all along the way.

The Demänovská Cave of Liberty is located in the northern part of the Low Tatras in Liptov region within Demänovská Valley. It is the most visited cave in Slovakia. The path in length of 400m leads to the entrance of the cave in the elevation height 870 m. Average temperature in the cave is 6,1 - 7°C.

De schoonheid van de onderwereld van de grotten trekt jaarlijks duizenden bezoekers aan. De unieke vormen en soms reusachtige afmetingen van de stalactieten, stalagmieten en ijsformaties, hun vele diverse kleuren en hun breekbare schoonheid tonen de immense kracht van de natuur. Demänovská jaskyňa slobody - vrijheidsgrotten van Demänova zijn de meest bezochte grotten in Slowakije. Ze liggen in de Demänovavallei, Demänovská jaskyňa Slobody aan de noordkant van de Lage Tatrabergketen. De grotten werden ontdekt in 1921, en zijn open voor het publiek vanaf 1924. De toegang die gebruikt wordt ligt op 870m hoogte. De galerijen in de ondergrond werden gecreëerd door de rivier de Demänova in de zachte kalkrotsen. Het heeft een interessant gangensysteem, ondergrondse holen en koepels, vele en verscheidene druipstenen. Naast deze stalagmieten, stalactieten en grootse stenen watervallen, zijn er eveneens kleurrijke kleine meertjes met op de bodem druipstenen als waterlelies, sponsen, grottenparels en diverse andere vormen. De grotten hebben een grote variatie aan kleuren en vormen, en dat maakt het één van de meest interessante om te bezoeken. In het laagste deel van de grotten, stroomt nog steeds de rivier de Demänova. De temperatuur varieert tussen 6,1 en 7°C en de relatieve vochtigheid tussen 94 en 99 %. Van de hele lengte van meer dan 8,4 km. is maar 1,8 km open voor het publiek. De grot is een nationaal natuurmonument.
