Traveling by train is the best way to experience Thailand and its peoples, especially if you travel on ordinary trains. Not only will you see the scenery and how people live in the countryside, you can also converse with the friendly Thais on the train. Lately, the government has offered free train rides to Thais on certain lines of ordinary trains. When it's busy, you might not get a seat and end up standing for part of the trip. However, there should be no problem finding seats during weekdays outside rush hour. We travel by train to Chachoengsao along the beautiful rice paddy fields. Chachoengsao is a sleepy provincial capital 80 km east of Bangkok. It is also known as Paet Rio. The name Chachoengsao is derived from Khmer and means deep canal, while the name of Paet Rio is believed to refer to the abundance of dried snakehead fish in the area which the locals would pierce into eight stripes before cooking and selling. “Paet” means eight and “Rio” means stripes.
Chachoengsao covers an area of 5,351 sq km and is located on the Bang Pakong River. It is an important agricultural region in central Thailand. Here you will find tasty mangos, jasmine rice, coconut and much more. The Klong Suan 100 year old Market is situated on the banks of Prawetburirom canal.

A 3rd class train journey lasting over 90 minutes takes us from the bustling and quaintly retro station Hua Lamphong through some of the trackside slums of Bangkok through small towns and rice fields to the small city of Chachoengsao. We were well on our journey, with the fresh air blowing through the open windows and the clickety-clack sounds of the train going down the tracks. The regular peak hour trains can get extremely crowded, and tickets for these services do not guarantee a seat, so arrive early, during weekdays or outside rush hour to avoid having to stand. It's the best way to experience Thailand and its peoples.

Reizen met de trein is de beste manier om Thailand en haar volk te leren kennen vooral als je een gewone 3e klasse trein neemt. Niet alleen ziet je het prachtige landschap en hoe mensen leven op het platteland, ook kan je praten met de vriendelijke Thai op de trein. De laatste tijd heeft de regering verschillende trajecten gratis gemaakt. We reizen met de trein naar Chachoengsao langs de prachtige rijstvelden. Chachoengsao kent veel industrie en landbouw. De stad is een slaperige provinciehoofdstad 80 km ten oosten van Bangkok. Het is ook bekend als Paet Rio. Chachoengsao heeft een oppervlakte van 5351 vierkante kilometer en is gelegen op het Bang Pakong. Het is een belangrijk agrarisch gebied in centraal Thailand. Hier vindt u smakelijk mango's, jasmijn rijst, kokosnoot en nog veel meer. De Klong Suan 100 jaar oude markt ligt aan de oevers van Prawetburirom kanaal. Wat Sothon is de belangrijkste tempel in de provincie Chachoengsao. Hij ligt op de westelijke oever van de Bang Pakong rivier. In de tempel bevindt zich één van de meest vereerde Boeddhabeelden van Thailand, Luang Pho Sathorn geheten. Dit beeld, in meditatiehouding, is bijna twee meter hoog en is altijd beplakt met goudbladen. Tweemaal per jaar vinden hier grote processies plaats. Gelovigen uit heel Thailand komen dan hierheen om eer te bewijzen aan dit beeld. Thaise dansers zijn dan gekleed in traditionele kledij en geven verschillende malen per dag een voorstelling.
