Wenns is made up of numerous hamlets and farms, located in the heart of a valley basin in the central Pitztal valley - Austria. The church in Wenns is considered as one most beautiful in the Tyrolean. Numerous hamlets and farms belong to the south eastern slope of the Venet mountain 2,513 m and the Piller saddle. The emblem of the municipality shows a yellow arm with judge’s staff, referring to the fact that until 1500 AD there was only one village judge administered justice in North Tyrol. The name Wenns derives from the term ad vannas, which means in the hollow. The municipality has got some sights to offer that are of particular interest for those who area interested in culture. The first is the so-called “Platzhaus” house, located close to the main road. Between 1576 and 1608 it was completely painted and assigned to the village advocate and judge of the Pitztal valley. The most ancient farm of Tyrol, which is about 700 years old, is also located at Wenns. Moreover there are some sacred bulidings, such as the St. John parish church, the succursal church at St. Margarethen or the Platzkapelle chapel in the centre of the village. Particularly popular is also the carnival custom of the Wenner Fasnacht. The oldest crib construction association of Tyrol, founded in 1860, has also been brought into being at Wenns. In summer trips into the fascinating world of mountains are particularly popular. Such as the whole-year round skiing area at the Pitztal Glacier, which is also the highest glacial skiing area of Austria.

Wenns is een gemoedelijk en rustig dorpje op 962 meter hoogte in Tirol - Oostenrijk. Gelegen op een zonnige plek in de dalbekken van het Pitztal op 65 km van Innsbruck. Als gevolg van zijn centrale ligging aan de hoofdstraat heeft Wenns zich ontwikkeld tot hoofdkern van gemeente in het district Imst. Toerisme is de belangrijkste bron van inkomsten, waarbij Wenns een belangrijke plaats inneemt in de wintersport in het Pitztal. Een bezienswaardigheid is het Platzhaus aan het dorpsplein dichtbij de hoofdstraat. Het voormalige huis van de burgemeester en de rechter van het Pitztal werd tussen 1576 en 1608 compleet beschilderd. Volgens recente bevindingen van de Universiteit van Innsbruck staat in Wenns de oudste boerderij. Door onderzoek van het gebruikte bouwhout is de leeftijd van deze boerderij op ongeveer 700 jaar vastgesteld. Het dal ligt ingeklemd tussen het natuurpark Kaunergrat en de Geigenkamm. De omgeving leent zich uitstekend tot wandelen, gaande van een makkelijke wandeling tot een heuse gletsjertocht. De hoogste kabelbaan van Oostenrijk brengt u vlotjes op 3440 m hoogte. Van hieruit kunt verder naar de top van de Wildspitze, die met zijn 3774 m het hoogste punt van Tirol is. Ook mountainbiken, raften, paragliden, of bungee jumpen vanaf de 94 m hoge Benni Reichbrug behoren tot de mogelijkheden. Of geniet er van het heilzame alpenwater aan de voet van één van de mooiste watervallen van het Pitztal.
