Sun breaking through - a photo on Flickriver

The sun breaking through after a storm of force 9 (severe gale) on the Beaufort scale the day before... Maximum gust speeds measured were above 65 mph or 105 km/h or comparable to force 11 (severe storm), Picture shows 40 meter high Landegode lighthouse in Northern Norway, on the voyage from Bodø to Lofoten. The wind at that time was force 7 (near gale).

The small island of Landegode lies just outside Bodø. It is a scenic jewel, whether you are bathing under the midnight sun in the summer or watching the dramatic dance of the northern lights above the lighthouse rock in the winter.

In this island realm we find the world's largest and most dense population of sea eagles, and this majestic bird is a magnificent sight as it takes off from its nest and plunges into the fjord in its quest for fish.

Landego Lighthouse was built in 1901 in order to secure the seaward approach from Lofoten to Bodø. Today, the lighthouse is still in full operation, albeit unmanned due to a full automation in 1993. The residences for the lighthouse keepers and assistants are since being used to sleep groups of up to 30 people. It takes a good hour to reach Landego lighthouse by boat over the choppy sea.
