Shawnigan Lk Rd to Summit Completed - a photo on Flickriver

            February 3, 2015 marks the official completion of the second round of Malahat safety improvements.

So, what's been done to make this Vancouver Island section of the Trans-Canada Highway safer?

- Widening 2.3 km from Shawnigan Lake Road to the summit to accommodate new median barrier.
- Improving the Whittaker Road/Holker Place intersection.
- Lengthening the southbound passing lane by 1 km and the northbound passing lane by 400 metres.
- Building U-turn locations.
- Providing better access to and from the Summit Rest Area, which now also has a northbound acceleration lane leaving the rest area. The rest area also features additional parking and lighting.
