L'histoire de Saint-Mathurin ne commence qu'au XIII ème siècle avec la construction de la Grande Levée (digue). Le bourg s'est étiré le long de la levée.

L'église saint-Mathurin est une église de style "néo-grec" 19ème siècle. Elle fut construite par l'architecte angevin François Villiers. 
Elle est orientée au nord, comme beaucoup d'églises construites sur les levées de la Loire.

The history of Saint-Mathurin does not begin until the thirteenth century with the construction of the Great Lift (dam). The village stretched along the lift.

The church of Saint-Mathurin is a "Greek Revival" style church 19th century. It was built by the Angevin architect François Villiers.

It is oriented to the north, like many churches built on the levees of the Loire.
