An Ottawa Police Service "new" Chevrolet Impala.

An Ottawa Police Service "eighth generation" Chevrolet Impala police car parked on Elgin Street in front of the Ottawa Courthouse.

While Montreal's police is quite fond of using the Chevy Impala as marked vehicles, the vast majority of marked Ottawa Police Service cruisers are Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptors, with the odd Dodge Charger. Until recently, I'd only ever seen the OPS use Impalas as unmarked vehicles.

Then, one day last winter, I got a rare glimpse of a seventh-generation Chevy Impala in the full Ottawa Police Service livery on Meadowlands Drive in Nepean, but I didn't get my camera out in time to photograph it (and haven't spotted it since). Some time after, I was watching videos of President Obama's motorcade in Ottawa during his visit in February and spotted a marked Ottawa Police Service eighth generation Impala, so I knew that there must be at least one out there for me to photograph. It took me another three months, but I finally spotted one of them.
