Washed Up (Explored) - a photo on Flickriver

After last nights sunset (check out previous picture below) me and my daughter was about to leave when she spotted a starfish washed up by the incoming tide.
I had my wellies on and my camera still on my tripod so took a couple of pictures.
I wanted to get the tide receding over the starfish but the tide just pushed the starfish inland everytime it reached it moving it out of shot.
So to compromise I composed my shot waiting for the water to just reach the starfish then took a picture as the tide went back out.
After a few minutes I got very lucky as the tide in this shot touched the starfish then receded without moving it.
I converted to mono which really helped to make this shot more graphic and gritty.

I am thinking of getting a new lens the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 I can't justify the price of the Nikon version so looking at the Sigma, has anyone got the Sigma 70-200 and if so how do you rate it, trying to get as much feedback and advice as possible before taking the plunge, let me know below or e-mail me please :)
