"Le nom de cet étang provient d’un ancien village détruit sur ordre de Michel Le Tellier, seigneur de Chaville, au moment où celui-ci fit construire un grand parc de chasse autour de son château (aujourd'hui disparu).
Michel Le Tellier fit creuser plusieurs étangs dont celui d'Ursine pour alimenter les fontaines de ses jardins à la française. Au début du XXème siècle, le quartier autour de l'étang d'Ursine était très animé et on y trouvait de nombreuses guinguettes dont le restaurant Barraud (aujourd'hui La Pergola) dont les serveurs s'approvisionnaient en eau pétillante à la source ferrugineuse attenante. Celle-ci, en cours de réhabilitation est visible en descendant la rue Alexandre-Maneyrol. Aujourd'hui l'étang est toujours fréquenté par de nombreux pêcheurs."
