Today while out for a short walk before I had to go to work, I was approached by a homeless man who motioned me to the bus stop. He informed me that he wished to have his photo taken with his friends, as fate may have it; I had already snapped a photo of one of the men during my first go round of the 100 strangers project. Of the two other men sitting at the bus stop, one man waved me away. Requesting that I not take his photograph, as a symbol of respect I agreed not to take his photo. The man in Chicago hat remained, and seemed interested in me snapping his photo. I offered a donation in turn for a few portraits and a story to go with, and he was ever great full for the opportunity to speak.

The other men had left the bus stop at this point, so it was just him and I. With no care for time, or a bus to catch we began our conversation. Introductions were quick and simple, he was David from Chicago (thus all the Chi-town gear) and I was Chris a photographer and homeless story teller. David labels himself as "homeless with an expectation of work," while he has a job (he's maintained successfully for 5.5 months!) that provides him a source of income it is not enough to support housing within the city limits. Everyday he goes to work with the mindset that even though he is homeless, he isn't any different then anyone else walking the streets of Madison. He works just as hard if not harder then most to make his money, and while I could only give two dollars I know that it goes to a good man.

David also informed me that he is a highly religious individual and that everyday is a blessing in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed with a passion for Christ, David likes to represent his hometown of Chicago (as seen well in my photo). Before we parted ways and I got his agreement to be included in my 100 more strangers project, I couldn't help but notice the dog tag hanging from his neck. A simple design, engraved with a rose and the word "mom" on it; I asked what it meant to him. Sadly David's mother passed away, but he wears the tags as a reminder that she is always there regardless of where she is. He does know that someday he will join her, and it will be a wonderful reunion; but until then live with passion no matter what that passion may be!
