Lyon - Saint Georges on the Saône River

I have many photographs of the amazing City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, but I thought I'd put in a variety here so you won't tire of looking at that place.

One good thing that came out of not being able to fly back home from Valencia was that there are many beautiful cities along the road from Spain to Germany. Lyon happened to be one of those that we had the pleasure of staying for the night.

I have been in Lyon before, during the Fête des Lumières (Festival of Lights) which takes place every December. It is a must-see event with spectacular light shows throughout the city. But it's nice to be able to come back and photograph Lyon on a 'normal' evening when all the locals are just going about their business and there are only the regular city lights.

Lyon is the third largest city in France and the second largest contributor to the French economy after Paris. It has been listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site since December 1998, specifically the Saint-Jean and the Croix-Rousse areas for their renaissance architecture. 

Just like Paris, Lyon has also been dubbed as the 'City of Lights' because of its history which began on Fourvière Hill, when the city was under the Romans. This tradition called "Lugdunum" by the Romans is still being practiced. Every night, more than a hundred sites across the city are lit up to show the splendour of Lyon’s architecture.
