Milky Way from Hummingbird Lake - a photo on Flickriver

            The Milky Way shines over Mt. Conness (right) and is reflected in Hummingbird Lake in the 20 Lakes Basin, making the Earth appear suspended in space.

Hummingbird Lake appears to be infrequently photographed.  I only found half a dozen shots on Flickr.  This may be because more hikers are attracted to the lakes on the west side, closer to the peaks.  There's a nice campsite on the east side of Hummingbird Lake, with a great view of North Peak and Mt. Conness.  Dave W (psa148) and I took some good shots of sunset, stars and sunrise from there (albeit with a cloudless sky); watch for them.

I finally ditched the Nikon D70S after 5 years of use, and bit for the Canon Rebel T2i.  Just got back from its maiden voyage.  One thing I like is its much-improved light-gathering capability.  We had good stars at night so I tried some shots.  The lake only reflects the brightest stars, and ripples in the water smears their reflections.
