            Standing on the Up Goods at Stapleford waiting the road into Toton Yard is a rather unusual freight, 28th April 1978. First of all it is hauled by a single Class 20 locomotive, Toton allocated 20134, this being most unusual as Toton invariably operated its Class 20 fleet in pairs. Secondly the train itself is a complete jumble of different wagon types, including a departmental vehicle with a mix of air braked, vacuum braked and unfitted wagons and most appear to be empty. An interesting working indeed, and I wonder where it originated.

Locomotive History
20134 was delivered from English Electric’s Vulcan Foundry works in March 1966 as D8134 and was one of a small batch of class 20’s (D8134 – D8143) delivered new to the Birmingham Division (DO2) which in reality was Bescot MPD. In May 1969 it transferred to the Nottingham Division (Toton) and remained a Toton engine until it was withdrawn in July 1989. It was briefly renumbered 20303 for six months in 1986 when dedicated to Peak Forest aggregate duties. It was broken up by MC Metals, Glasgow during August 1991.
