Little Owl (Athene noctua) - a photo on Flickriver

            This pair of Little Owls hold territory behind my house through the summer and autumn but have nothing to do with each other.

Each year they seem to pair up again earlier and earlier. I first saw them together a couple of weeks ago when I shut the chickens in for the night.

It was a clear night with a full moon and their silhouettes showed well as they perched together in their favourite oak tree.

Last night I decided to try to get a shot of them both. I set up the flashes and took a test shot. The male came in straight away and the female quickly followed.

It was all over in a couple of minutes.
