Out Numbered

            1346AD, 26th August,  Crécy, France. Edward  III has selected the best site to do battle with the French, between  Crécy and Wadicourt.
 
England and France have been at war since 1337 (this war is now know as the 100 year war). In July 1346 Edward III landed at Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, France and marched through the  Cherbourg peninsula.  After taking the town of Caen and Lisieux the English are stopped from taking Rouen as the bridge over the River Seine has been destroyed.  The river is crossed at Poissy over a rebuilt bridge. The English then marched north, prevented from joining their Flemish allies across the River Somme due to the French destroying the bridges over that river as well.

Edward is told of a shallow crossing near Abbeville, which he crosses and then finds a place to engage the French army.  The English army now wait for battle.  Some men sleep, getting as much rest as possible following the tiring march.  Others play dice to help past the time.  Some of the archers inspect the arrows,  discussing their quality and the best way to make a bow.  Others, bored, go and dig more pits - the pits are placed to slow down the expected charge by the French Men of arms on their horse's.

And so the 10,000 to 15,000 English force wait for the first attack from the French army of 20,000 to 25,000.
