In old Japan, plain white or black backdrops for commercial studio portraits is less common than painted scenery.

"GEISHA GIRLS"

In the English language, "GEISHA GIRLS" is a historically accurate and absolutely correct term for the shorter "GEISHA".

The compound "GEISHA GIRLS" never was and never has been a separate term used for "PROSTITUTE", except by uninformed foreigners in all ages who thought that Geisha and prostitutes were the same thing.

Hard copy and Web entries that tell you such things as.... "Geisha Girls" is a WW2 invention of the occupying US Military that references "fake Geisha" or "Japanese prostitutes masquerading as Geisha" (and etc) is totally wrong. Such pronouncements are the result of failed scholarship foisted on modern-day Geisha fans by those who speak with seeming great authority on the subject, but are actually blowing hot air out their watoozies. No need to listen to them.
