89th Street Pier - a photo on Flickriver

89th Street Pier

The 89th Street fishing pier in Galveston, Texas, or rather what's left of it after Hurricane Ike hit back in 2008. There's another section of pier still standing farther out the left of this shot too, separated by a large section that was destroyed by the storm.

There's an interesting story associated with this place; turns out, there were two men who decided to weather the storm in the building on this pier. The entire lower section of the structure was washed away in the night by the storm surge, and the men had to be rescued by helicopter the next morning.
