Light up the Battery - a photo on Flickriver

            This was another image taken at Battery Russell in Fort Stevens in Oregon.  We were introducing the nieces and nephews to steel wool spinning.  This was a fine place because its always dark, and nothing can possibly catch fire (except our cloths).  The spinner in this image is my nephew, Austen.  He is in the closet there in the back.  We had a blue light over there in the stairs to give some color, the water on the floor was also an addition we brought.  

This place is an abandoned military battery.  Huge guns were hidden here and sprung up to the top only to fire then go back down.  These were in the sub-levels where the munitions were stored, the spiral staircase to the left took the men up and down to the gun deck.  The nook on the right is where the lanterns were placed to assure maximum light and to keep it away from the munitions.  The whole facility is poured concrete, which is why it is still there.  We love shooting there batteries.  We have almost seen all of them on the west coast, just a few left to see.  I usually bring the steel wool kit with me when I go.  I have now made custom cables and spinners.
