Triumphpforte, Johann Baptist Hagenauer 1765

            The Triumphal Arch is one of the most famous landmarks in Innsbruck, Austria.  The arch commemorates the marriage of Archduke Leopold,  second son of Empress Maria Theresa and Francis Stephen of Lorraine with the Spanish princess Maria Ludovica.  After Franz Stephan died unexpectedly on 18 August 1765, mourning motifs were also incorporated into the design. The south side motifs commemorate the marriage; the north, the death of the Emperor.
