Calanque de Sormiou
The Calanque de Sormiou is one of many coves the coast of Marseille. This is particularly a popular climbing site.
It is bordered by two peninsulas formed in the southwest by the crête de Sormiou and northeast by the crête de Morgiou, which separates it from the Calanque de Morgiou.
The Calanque de Sormiou is one of the best known and most creeks frequented by Marseille. It is accessed by a small road well hidden in the Baumettes region.
The creek of Sormiou is one of the only inhabited creeks (one hundred huts) and conceals a small harbor protected by a breakwater. As the entire east coast of the French Mediterranean, water is particularly clear. It is very rich in terms of flora and fauna, especially since the cove is located a few kilometers from a population of a million inhabitants.
In summer 1998, the cove was devastated by a fire.
