The Star Magnolia is a deciduous tree with a spectacular spring display. One would look beautiful near a patio or entrance, and they are also eye-catching in naturalized areas. Your Star Magnolia will be one of the first trees to bloom in the spring, and what a bloom it is! In early spring, your Magnolia will burst into pristine, white color with pale pink highlights. The fragrant, 4-inch flowers have multiple petals. Each petal is elongated in appearance presenting an overall exotic, somewhat fluffy-looking affect. The star-like blossoms cover the branches before the foliage has even had time to erupt, contributing to the spectacular display. The shape of its white flowers give it both its common name and its scientific name. It blooms in March or April, making it one of the true harbingers of spring. Fuzzy, pussy willow-like buds precede the spring display of mildly fragrant flowers.
