A lovely jewel hidden away in the depths of Whinlatter Forest. Spout Force was one of the first walks I ever did as a youngster in the Lake District about 15 or so years ago, and since then I have visited it countless times. Despite it's beauty and ease of access it's not that frequented, and those who visit often only view it from the platform located a little distance away and from which the view is becoming obscured gradually by dense foliage. Many don't realise that you can actually gain access to the base of the spout as long as you don't mind clambering and getting damp feet after rainfall - but the effort is worthwhile. I love the "keyhole" effect in the rock where the beck flows out of the plunge pool after it has crashed down the waterfall itself. Here, one can feel lost in an Amazonian-like rainforest beneath the canopies and amongst the mosses and ferns. On my last visit here the "keyhole" was blocked with many tree trunks and branches so unfortunately I could not get a shot looking through it towards the spout - but they have since been removed so this time I was able to get the shot I wanted. It's nice to see the path to this fall being recovered as it was badly damaged and some parts were washed away by Storm Desmond late last year.
