Rest Peacefully Dear Dad (1935-2017)

An impromptu portrait of my dad taken at Christmas 2016.

My dad died on Easter Sunday after suffering from Leukaemia which was diagnosed last winter. He fought to the very end and only suffered in his final few days. He went peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and children, as was his wish.

I owe a huge debt to the medical and nursing teams in the Intensive Care Unit, Acute Medical Unit and to the District and Macmillan Nurses. They worked tirelessly to ensure that my dad could get home and be comfortable; to spend his final few days with those that loved him most.

Dad taught me to love nature, he taught me to swim, he taught me so many life lessons that went such a huge way into making me who I am today. He always complimented or criticised my achievements in such a way as to encourage me to improve, succeed and to value my talents. Dad took a great interest in my artwork, music composition and photography, in his honour I shall continue anew! Normal photographic service will be resumed tomorrow.

I nursed him almost around the clock in his final days at home and, as promised, I was the last person to hold him as he had been the first to hold me when I came into this world.

Dear Dad, I love you. I always will. Rest peacefully and know that every moment we shared is cherished. xxx
