Camel Spider...Aggressive Mode Rear - a photo on Flickriver

The Battle Bugs war has taken to the desert and with it comes Baal, the most perfectly adapted bug-mech equipped to easily thrive in the punishing heat and hide amongst sand dunes. Its Arabic spelling of Ba’al means “false god”, but to Westerners, the name is synonymous to The Devil Himself...and rightfully so. Steeped in legend and nightmares, it is said that the real camel spider can grow to three feet across, can run a staggering 25 MPH, and is a relentless hunter of human flesh...its venom has a numbing effect, making it so the camel spider can devour a soldier’s entire arm or leg as they sleep. Also rumor has it that they feed on the stomachs of camels and often scream as they run. Thankfully these legends are all untrue, but this particular bug-mech takes its design cues from these myths and nightmares. Piloted by the cunning Commander Mohammed Al-Ayid, this formidable mech can pierce heavy armor with its powerful jaws and ejects a corrosive poison that rapidly eats away metal. In aggressive mode, this mech sports long range cannons below its front appendages while two more hide behind its mandibles. A windowless hatch protects Commander Al-Ayid from relentless heat and sand storms and in spite of its heavy armor, this mech can sprint at 60 MPH...and you better believe it screams! In battle, its high pitched, ghostlike howl has driven other mech pilots mad with fear...it means that this mech is alerting others of its kind to its position and its only a matter of short time before legions of other camel spiders will join in to seal your doom.

This was built for the “Desert Destruction” challenge over at the Battle Bugs group. As of now, there is still plenty of time to build and submit a desert themed bug to the challenge. So, if you build with Lego and would like to be a part of a great community, please join in on the fun.
