The Road Less Traveled - a photo on Flickriver

There are two roads onto Island in the Sky.  This is the other one.  It's the Shafer Trail and you would be prudent to use a high clearance vehicle.

We're standing at the Shafer Canyon Overlook, looking towards the start of the switchbacks that will eventually take you below the Island in the Sky mesa.  You will reach an intersection where you have your choice of taking the Potash Road to Moab, or the White Rim Trail which takes a couple of days to circle around the mesa.
