Daybreak - a photo on Flickriver

Daybreak

Waking up on a December morning to find a blue sky, no wind, and mountains looming over from all sides reminded me that there isn't really a 'good' time of the year to be outdoors: any day has the potential to be great or a proving ground for your water- and wind-proof clothing. This morning was definitely one of the ones to be grateful for: watching the sun crawling down and round the peaks of the Fisherfield and Strathnasheallag forests, eventually casting across the flat plain of Strath na Sealag, we were a little envious of the herds of deer that grazed in the invitingly-warm sunlight. Sheneval bothy, our camping spot for the night, seemed destined to perpetual winter shade, so we headed west to chase the sun and reduce our envy of the deer a little.

Heading along the glen, we reached that sublime point where the sun peeked out from behind Beinn a' Chlaidheimh and, after a few moments basking like thawing lizards, seized the irony of running back into the shade to capture the first rays and that sweeping shadow line on the floor of the glen.
