Airborne Infantry

            Taken at the 1940s theme weekend at Howarth in West Yorkshire with my EF80-200mm f/2.8L lens.

I deliberately pushed this shot much harder than I usually would in post-processing to make it much more contrasty. I did this to accentuate his stubble and the lines in his face, particularly around the eyes. Even though this was merely a person in costume I felt it gave him more character by giving him a dirty, weathered, battle-hardened complexion that fitted the subject matter. The intention is to tell a story and provoke the viewer into forming a mental picture of how a real soldier might look.

I also gave his eyes a similarly extreme treatment to make the colours pop in a way that may be considered 'false'. Whilst I concede they are more striking that I would normally allow, he actually had quite piercing blue eyes that really stood out, even on the RAW exposure straight out of the camera.
