Strawboard factory 'Toekomst' - Scheemda, Netherlands

            Apparently, the boilers and steam engines are still in there, but rusted solid.

Strawboard factory 'Toekomst' was built in 1900 and was the largest of nineteen strawboard factories in the area. It was in operation until 1968 and employed hundreds of workers.
'Toekomst' is Dutch for 'future'. Sadly, there is no future in what was once a dominating industry in the North East of the Netherlands.
Most of the roof was removed because it contained asbestos and posed a health risk. This did not improve the chances of survival of the building. There are plans to restore it, but so far, funds are lacking. If it's left to decay much longer, no funds in the world will bring it back from being a ruin...
