Nacedero del Urederra - a photo on Flickriver

            El murmullo del agua cristalina, la luz que se filtra entre las hojas de los árboles tiñendo de verde lima el paisaje y el aroma a naturaleza contribuyen a que este lugar, declarado reserva natural en 1987, sea uno de los enclaves más espectaculares de Navarra.
El Nacedero del Urederra, situado al norte de Estella-Lizarra, es la salida natural del acuífero formado en el macizo kárstico de Urbasa. La primera surgencia se produce en un cortado a 700 metros de altitud en el reborde meridional del macizo, originando una impresionante caída de más de 100 metros que con el transcurso de millones de años ha modelado un anfiteatro rocoso de notable belleza. 
Tras ella se suceden otras cascadas y numerosas pozas de agua de color turquesa que se forman como consecuencia del fenómeno kárstico, por el que el agua se filtra a través de las grietas de las rocas surgiendo una y otra vez desde las entrañas de la tierra. La especial tonalidad de estas aguas es la que seguramente habrá inspirado a quien bautizó al río con el nombre de Urederra, que significa "agua hermosa". Pero además del agua, cabe mencionar la diversidad de flora y fauna que integran este espacio natural: hayas, robles, olmos, arces, tejos y avellanos, entre otras especies vegetales, y buitres, alimoches, milanos, aguiluchos o cuervos, como protagonistas del reino animal.
