Windy Post Stars ~ Explored - a photo on Flickriver

I headed out to Dartmoor with Dan Sharp last night on a hunt for stars. As we were driving out towards the moors we were skeptical as to whether it would be too cloudy, but fortunately as we got past Plymouth the skies cleared up beautifully! When we got out to Dartmoor we thought Windy Post Cross would be a good location to get something decent.

We spent a painful two hours in the freezing cold taking 30-second exposures, so we could stack them and create star trails, but ironically I much prefer this one exposure (about ten minutes in and when I was much warmer!) which shows the stars in all their beauty. The foreground in this shot is lit up by Dan spinning lit wire wool behind the camera, giving the cross a nice glow, which is far less harsh than my speedlight.
