North Street - a photo on Flickriver

North Street

27th December 2015, on a Xmas trip to Boston, Lincolnshire. This is the old Norprint factory which was mostly on Norfolk Street but which took up all of North Street and which ran in an L-shape up to Horncastle Road behind the King's Arms and Hartley Street - if you look closely, the windows visible at the very "back" of this image belong to houses on Hartley Street.

I believe before the factory there were houses here - my nan said she lived there when she was a girl in the very early 20th Century and a lot of my family from that time lived in the area.

You can see if you skip back here in Google Maps that the factory building has some art deco styling to it which would suggest a date of the 20s or 30s.

Anyway, this photo was taken with my Yashica Samurai 3.0X on expired Kodak Elitechrome, crossprocessed. Cropped and tweaked in Picasa.

Note that North Street no longer really exists - the whole factory was knocked down and flattened and new houses have been built on the site. The old street layout running up to Horncastle Road does not seem to have been kept as part of the new site, though there is a new street coming off Norfolk Street. I am just not sure if it is still called North Street.

There are currently some fun anomalies to be had with jumping back in time on Google Maps - see here and then if you point the cursor up the street you can jump back in time to here.

I think Google maps updates street view from time to time so in the future this might disappear, so enjoy it for now if it still works :D
