Christian de Vietri plays with simulations with his sculptures based on 'living statues' - a popular form of street performance. This is a sculpture of the artist's friend who is dressed as a street performer pretending to be a sculpture. It is case in aluminium, recreating the look of the performer's homemade, silver spray-painted costume, which in turn was meant to look like metal.

De Vietri is interested in the way the repetition of a cultural form - in this case the half-man, half-robot of popular cinema - is reduced to a handful of easily recognised visual abbreviations. The silvery finish, exposed circuitry and stiff stance are enough to indicate what the street performer is trying to be. The artist has assimilated all living sculptures he has seen into this one new figure, which he returns to the status of an 'original' through the laborious process of casting. He describes this work as 'the statis spectacle of an object going through an identity crisis, and emerging as something new'."
