La storia

Il Castello di Lerici è una delle più imponenti ed interessanti fortificazioni esistenti nel Golfo Ligure. La sua sagoma maestosa si erge sulla sommità del promontorio roccioso che delimita a sud l’insenatura lericina, risaltando nello splendido paesaggio circostante che caratterizza in modo inconfondibile. La sua costruzione inizia nel 1152 ed è frutto dell’avvicendarsi della dominazione pisana e genovese.L e fasi più importanti dell'edificazione del Castello possono essere ridotte a tre.

La PRIMA FASE, la più antica, riguarda il periodo della dominazione pisana in cui la consistenza architettonica del Castello doveva comprendere la torre primitiva, il corpo rettangolare del piano intermedio suddiviso in 4 piccole celle e la Cappella di Santa Anastasia. Risale al periodo pisano anche la cinta muraria esterna al salone adiacente, la cui volta è sicuramente di epoca posteriore.

La SECONDA FASE inizia con la riconquista genovese del 1256. In questo periodo viene rafforzata la Torre e viene realizzata una struttura che ingloba la primitiva torre pisana; vengono inoltre edificate le mura che cingono l'attuale cortile lato nord - ovest e viene completata la splendida Cappella castrense di S. Anastasia con il vestibolo che la precede.

La TERZA FASE inizia nell'anno 1555 e porta a compimento l'insieme delle opere di fortificazione. Il Castello, in questa fase,assume l'attuale conformazione monumentale, consolidando la propria importanza strategica al confine orientale ligure .
