Mission: As this week contains the second of three Friday the 13ths that occur this year (the next one is in November), I want to see how you capture the essence of superstitions (good, bad, preventative, other). Here is a great resource for ideas: Superstitions: old wives tales, folklore, bizarre beliefs, taboos, omens, lucky & unlucky things.

edit: If you choose a lesser known superstition please provide some backgroud info on its origin and meaning. It is often interesting to learn where these things come from.

WIT:
Pretty easy setup: ambient light (from above) - but, wouldn't you know it, I had some bad luck - I shot about 125 shots of various iterations of this same scene but one of directories of 100 images on the CF is inaccessible in Windows (though I can see the images on the camera LCD). Or, maybe it was good luck, it narrowed my choices a bit :)

I have been practicing my B&W conversions all week since I've had this shot rolling around in my head since last Sunday :) Other than the conversion this is all in camera with the 50mm set @ 1.4 with a slight crop to 4:5. The conversion was with a B&W adjustment layer in PS CS3 (nice new feature that they added) and a quick levels and curves adjustment.

That's my friend Bill with me and some paper and scotch tape horns lurking over his shoulder...

There are various theories as to why it is bad luck to spill salt, however, most of the theories and tales agree that one should throw a pinch over one's left shoulder as that is where the devil lurks.
