The Lava of Kilauea - a photo on Flickriver

            For the first time in a long time (1980s?), the lava in Volcanoes National Park is actually visible from a legal area. The pool of lava inside Halemaumau Crater reached its highest level and came within view of the Jagger Museum, which is where this photo was taken from. Normally the lava lake is a hundred feet or so below its current level. The Jagger Museum has become overrun by iPad-wielding tourists--even after midnight, there was still a line of cars waiting for people to leave so they could park.
