The Grass IS Greener - a photo on Flickriver

Day #11, January 11, 2009 - uploaded for the Project 365 Pool.

Rexx can't have a lot of green grass. He foundered on grass when he was six years old and I nearly lost him. Then in 2003, he had a fatty tumor wrap around his intestine and I nearly lost him again. Emergency surgery to remove 17 feet of intestine at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital (www.roodandriddle.com) and 3 weeks in the hospital including a horrible infection and a lot of care pulled him out of that one. I feed him differently than I fed his mom at his age - he gets senior feed softened with hot water and free choice of grass and a grass hay mix year round. I have to keep him off of the spring green grass, but he obviously knows that grass would be okay this time of year. Maybe I'll take him for a walk so he can graze instead of gaze.
