P-51D Red Tails LEGO - a photo on Flickriver

The North American Aviation P-51 Mustang was an American long-range, single-seat fighter used during World War II and the Korean War.

Before the introduction of the P-51D Mustang, the American B-17 Bombers were forced to fly over Germany without any fighter escort.
The Mustang changed that. When Goring saw P-51s flying over Berlin, he said "When I saw Mustangs over Berlin, I knew the jig was up."
It also escorted B-29s against Japan. Some were even used in 1969 against Corsairs during the "Soccer War" between El Salvador and Honduras!

About the MOC:
I´ve always been a fan of the Mustang since I saw the film "The Empire of the Sun". Recently I saw the film “The Tuskegee Airmen” and I decided to build a model of the first African American combat unit in the United States Army Air Corps that fought in World War II, the famous "Red Tails".
