Johanna TG 326 - A Smack from Vágur and Royndin Fríða - A Row Boat from Vágur - After the Rowing Competition on Olavsoka 2010

The smack on this photo is Johanna TG326, which was built in 1884 in Sussex in England. Ten years later it was sold to the Faroe Islands and here it is, 126 years old. Website: www.johanna.fo/index_uk.htm

The Ólavsøka Rowing Race is always held on 28 July 2010. It takes a few hours. First there are races for children up to 15 years old, then for boys and girls from 15-18 years old and finally for the adults. The children and the young people row in so-called 5-mannafør, the adults row in boats which are larger: 6-mannafør, 8-mannafør and 10-mannafør. I come from Vágur in Suduroy, there should be two boats from Vágur at the Olavsoka race 2010, but Smyril didn't compete with the 6-mannafør after all along with some other boats, they boycotted the race because one of the boats cheated and didn't get punished, it got two yellow cards which means nothing. Anyway, two boats from my island competed in this race, one them was Royndin Fríða from Vágur and the other was Firvaldur from Tvøroyri. Royndin Fríða became number two and Firvaldur became number three. They row 1000 meters.
