4/52 | II

52 Weeks of Star Wars is a weekly photo project starring various characters from the Star Wars franchise. This photo project is a continuation of sorts to my original series; 365 Days of Clones, specially my Cloned Photos mini-series.

Today marks the fourth creation in this year long adventure. As the title suggests; 52 Weeks of Star Wars, one new photo will be taken, edited and added to the running total every Sunday. The twist is that all the images will be a recreation of sorts of a previous image. Some; like today, will be a recreation from a movie poster, while others will be recreations of famous images of the 20th century or album covers. There may even be the odd recreation of a painting!

“II” is my recreation of the "300" movie poster. 300 was originally released on March 9, 2007 and was based upon Frank Miller’s graphic novel "300". For those unfamiliar with graphic novel series, the film recreation or the original story of Thermopylae here is a very brief synopsis.

The Spartans; a group of ancient Greeks from the city-state of Sparta, were going to be invaded by Xerxes and his Persian army. Knowing they were very much outnumbered, the Spartans decided to meet the Persians at Thermopylae; a natural funnel formed in the mountains. As a result of the now small battle field, the 300 Spartans were able to battle and hold off the Persians. Eventually, Xerxes is cut in battle; showing that he is human and not a God-King, and the Spartans are defeated. As a result of the 300 Spartan’s bravery, 10,000 Spartans and 30,000 free Greeks challenged Xerxes’ depleting army at the Battle of Plataea and where the Persians were defeated.

Some of you may be wondering why I chose to create a Cloned Photo based upon Frank Miller’s “300”. During University, I minored in Classical Civilizations and the story of Thermopylae has always been very interesting to me. After reading about and seeing the Battle of Geonosis in Attack of the Clones, it reminded me of Thermopylae. Both forces, the Spartans and the Jedi were strongly outnumbered by the Persians and Clones, but both stayed and fought. And I always thought the poster would look good with a little Star Wars Flare!
