Saturn V, Third Stage J-2 Engine - a photo on Flickriver

Getting up to the top of the Saturn V, here's the third stage engine. This is the same motor as used on the second stage (though there were 5 on that stage and only one here). This engine had to perform one extra trick compared to its second stage colleagues - it had to stop and restart. It fired first to get the third stage into Earth orbit then, later, to kick it towards the Moon.

Take a look at the image large size and you'll probably be as impressed as I was when you look at the intricacy of the plumbing!
