El Pucará de Tilcara es una fortaleza construida por los tilcaras, una parcialidad de los omaguacas, en un punto estratégico sobre la Quebrada de Humahuaca, en la Provincia de Jujuy, República Argentina (los aborígenes de la región decidieron fijar sus residencias en la cima de los cerros o mesetas de difícil acceso). Se encuentra a 1 km al sur de la ciudad de Tilcara. Fue un lugar ideal para defenderse de los ataques; dominaba el cruce de los dos únicos caminos del lugar y por un lado la defienden los acantilados sobre el Río Grande y por el otro las ásperas laderas. En los faldeos más accesibles construyeron altas murallas. Los pucarás no solo tenían fines defensivos sino también sociales y religiosos. Desde esa altura podían controlarse los campos de cultivo circundantes y las viviendas de los campesinos en los terrenos bajos.

The Pucará de Tilcara is a fortress built by the Tilcaras, a bias of the Omaguacas, in a strategic point on the Quebrada de Humahuaca, in the Province of Jujuy, Argentina (the aborigines of the region decided to fix their residences on the top of The hills or plateaus of difficult access). It is located 1 km south of the city of Tilcara. It was an ideal place to defend against the attacks; Dominated the crossing of the only two roads of the place and on one side are defended by the cliffs on the Rio Grande and on the other the rough slopes. In the more accessible slopes they built high walls. The Pucarás were not only for defensive purposes but also social and religious purposes. From that height the surrounding fields of cultivation and the peasants' dwellings on the low ground could be controlled.
