Milky Way - a photo on Flickriver

Milky Way

            This is a rather interesting exposure from the point of view of how it was taken. It's a 4 minute tracked exposure of the Milky Way, and at first glance, it would appear to be a composite because tracking over this length of time will blur any foreground. However, this is a single exposure. 

The foreground landscape such as the rocks appear quite bright and sharp due to a car pulling into the parking lot and briefly illuminating the foreground. This caused the foreground detail to be captured for a few seconds in the image as very sharp compared to the trees in the distance that didn't get illuminated by the car headlights. Despite it being tracked over a long period, the foreground looks sharp as though it was a second image composited in.

Another cool part is a satellite the travelled from the top centre of the image all the way down the Milky Way to its core. Not a big or prevelant part of the image, but it adds an extra element to the image.
