Sangre Gold - a photo on Flickriver

Sangre Gold

            Massive shoulders of rumpled sand catch slanted afternoon sun, and the aspens on the slopes of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in the distance light up brilliantly, Great Sand Dunes National Park, Colorado. 

While the Dunes surely would be a fascinating place to visit any time of year, I have always managed to come here in the autumn, for reasons that are probably abundantly clear. In addition to the autumn color, the temperatures are deliciously cool, the mosquitoes have all perished, and the boys can cavort endlessly with the dog in vast expanse of sand.
