Benotto Modelo 3000 - a photo on Flickriver

            Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth I had a serious motorcycle accident and shutdown the Ortega HWY between San Juan Capistrano and Lake Elsinore.  I was evacuated by helicopter.

During my rehab I built up a bike from scratch.  I took a new Benotto (1984) Modelo 3000 frame, mounted up a Shimano 600 gruppo, and laced a nice pair of Mavic G40 rims.  I needlessly cut the stem too short and the bike was never quite right.  Still, it went like stint and my knees were vastly improved over the course of a couple years.

I later gave this bike to a friend at work.  He had a carbon fiber fork installed and made the bike into a fixie.

Years went by and I suddenly had a hanker'n for a "ride".  My friend sold me the bike back for the cost of the fork.  It was a sweet deal.

Last weekend I re-installed the original gruppo, added a pair of nice peddles in place of the old cages, and made sure the rear rim was re-centered, now that the 6 speed cluster was back on the rear hub.

I think we can file this composite under the heading of "bike porn".
