            The big flash is a Metz 60 CT1, which I've had for a while. Its power pack is designed also to run an optional extra daisy chain of Metz Mecatwin 60-40 accessory flash heads which fire at the same time. I've just managed to acquire and resuscitate one of the rare Mecatwin accessory heads. The Mecatwin head is light in weight and adds a GN of 40 to give a total of 100 (metres at ISO 100 angle equiv to full frame 35mm lens).

A useful amount of room lighting flash power, and the two independently swivellable heads can be bounced off different parts of the ceiling, two different walls, etc.. Makes lugging the heavy battery pack around more worthwhile :-)

For high image quality (low ISO and diffraction-limited aperture) in large or dark rooms a great deal of lighting power is required, a lot more than you can get from a camera mounted flash running off AAs. This kit is as powerful as lower powered mains studio strobes (the beam technology and power rating systems are so different that it's impossible to make precise power comparisons).
